Water Budget Status Report ESHMC Meeting September 13, 2011 Presented by Stacey Taylor

Our Goal Update data through December 2010 Provide new water budget files to IDWR to perform a model validation (ESPAM 2.X)

Status of the Water Budget

List of Water Budget Files CELLS IN THE MODEL (CEL file) – This file should stay the same – Official CEL file not yet created, but can be done quickly using the new ESPAM tools CANAL SEEPAGE (CNL file) – *.csv file created (same as ESPAM 2.0) – CNL file not yet created

List of Water Budget Files TOTAL DIVERSIONS (DIV file) – This file is continuously a work in progress – Still needing data from the 2010 irrigation season for several entities It is possible we still may not be able to acquire this in time for some entities – Few files to check (to make sure some files with zeros for irrigation season are still zeros) For example, IESW009 file a has had no diversions since 2001 – For the entities with missing data (we will look at this in the next few slides) average values are used

Entities Lacking Data for the DIV file We need 2010 data for most of the entities IESW029 (Mud Lake) – We need 2009 – 2010 water year (WY) data IESW032 (North Side 7) – We need 2008 – 2010 WY data for the X-Waste IESW037 (Reno) – We need Reno Ditch Co. records for WY 2005, IESW040 (Southwest) – We need lots of data for the Oakley Fan (WY )

Entities needing data for the DIV file (cont) IESW052 (Private Basin 32 – WD 32C Medicine Lodge) – We need WY 2002 – 2004, 2009 – 2010 IESW053 (Private Basin 33 – WD 33 Little Lost) – We need WY 2008 – 2010 data IESW057 (Bureau of Indian Affairs) – We need WY 2003 – 2008 data

List of Water Budget Files (cont) IRRIGATION ENTITIES (ENT file) – For ESPAM2.0, the 2000 and 2006 ET adjustment factors were calculated. – Could calculate 2002 adjustment factors, but is this necessary since this is a dry year? – Sprinkler and gravity irrigation percentages in the ENT file have been carried forward (extrapolated to Dec 2010)

List of Water Budget Files (cont) ET ON IRRIGATED LANDS (ETI file) – No data collected NON-IRRIGATED RECHARGE (NIR file) – No data collected FIXED POINT PUMPING (FPT file) – Collected and summarized exchange well data (done) – Other data to construct: Wetlands correction points, urban/industrial net correction – Need exchange well data from Mud Lake still to compile the allotment sheet….if we continue with the allotment sheet?

List of Water Budget Files (cont) IRRIGATED LANDS BY ENTITY (IAR file) – This file is just a matter of using the tools to create the file OFFSITE PUMPING (OFF file) – We need to summarize ET data to complete these calculations to represent the pumping into canals in IESW044 and IESW016 PERCHED RIVER SEEPAGE (PCH file) – Almost complete!

List of Water Budget Files (cont) PRECIPITATION (PRE file) – Complete – These were completed using our own process of extracting grids and conversion methods, but it may be necessary to go back and use the ESPAM tools to perform this process to be consistent SOILS (SOL file) – Not complete, but should be the same as ESPAM2.0 TRIBUTARY UNDERFLOW (TRB file) – Performing literature search to find studies on individual basins – Plan to continue with ESPAM2.0 methods (using Silver Ck as proxy) and use this for the model validation

Additional Task River File – Working on updating the river cells with river gage heights and reservoir stage heights
