Over-Current Protection

Overview  Protection circuitry is required to ensure that electrical components are protected during malfunction  Battery cell protection, as well as component protection primarily encompass over-current protection.

Concerns  Large peak current (67.8A)  Battery details currently unknown  Exact electronic characteristics (threshold) values unknown for modules  Inner environment characteristics of RP unknown

Concept #1  Resettable Fuse ProsPros  Acts as an over temperature detector  Manual resetting/replacement not required  Does not require operation awareness  Easy integration ConsCons  Low “trip” currents in high temperature  Requires extensive environment research

Resettable Fuse

Concept #2  Hot Plug Controller ProsPros  Customizable “trip” current  Manual resetting/replacement not required  Does not require operation awareness  Kill switch feature available ConsCons  Complex implementation

Hot Plug Controller

Preliminary Analysis

Improved Concept  Initial concept only consisted of a standard fuse  Did not take into account start-up characteristics
