General Silver Information Description of the Element Uses of Silver Effects of Silver Towards the Environment, Animals and Humans Interesting Facts and Other Information

Name: Silver Atomic Number: 47 Symbol: Ag Electron Configuration: [Kr] 4d10 5s1 Melting Point: °C Boiling Point: 2212°C Discovery: Since ancient times, (in the bible it was mentioned). Type (Metal or Non-Metal): Metal Element Classification: Transition Metal

Silver is a metal that was commonly used around the world. First, since silver is a metal, it conducts heat and electricity. Then, silver is one of the few metallic element that occurs naturally. Silver is located all over the world, and found when mining, usually mixed with other elements when found. Pure silver is usually metallic white and is one of the common metal around the world, since it is used quite frequently around the world.

Silver is used in photography, and so some silver could be released into water from photographic processing. Then, some silver could be released to air when entering environments through natural processes. This could prove harmful because when humans get lower- levels of exposure to this, the silver could be deposited in the skin and other parts of the body, but not really harmful. If we get high-level exposures of silver in the air, it could cause breathing problems, lung irritation, throat irritation, stomach pain and agyria, a disease that causes the skin to turn blue-grey and other organs.. Also, when silver comes in contact with the skin, it may cause mild allergic reactions like rash, swelling and inflammation in some people.

The world silver is from the Latin word argentum, and also from the Anglo-Saxon word, seolfor or siolfur. Silver has a natural resistance against types of bacteria and viruses. Pure silver has brilliant white metallic luster.
