Faculty Voice In System of Shared Governance Exists on All 10 UC Campuses and Systemwide (Office of the President) Organized as a Legislative Body with four Officers, 14 Standing Committees, four Faculty Councils and multiple Task Forces Supported by a Dedicated Staff of Five Including a Director, Two Senior Senate Analysts, and Two Senate Analysts

At UCSF All Faculty Are Encouraged And Welcome to Participate in Select Senate Committees and at Division Meetings Senate Members Include Faculty in the Ladder Rank, In-Residence, Clinical-X and Lecturers With Security of Employment Series Faculty in the Clinical and Adjunct Series Participate in Senate Activities as Representatives

Examples of Key Senate Committees Makes Recommendations on New Faculty Hires, Faculty Promotions, Changes in Series and Select Merit Increases Participates in Stewardship Reviews Selects the Annual Recipients of the UCSF Distinction in Teaching Awards Reviews Policies Related to Hiring and Promotion for Faculty Committee on Academic Personnel (CAP)

Committee on Privilege & Tenure Committee of Nine Senior Faculty Reviews and Advises on Campus Policies or Local Regulations Affecting Academic Privileges and Tenure Has Jurisdiction to Deal With Three Types of Matters : –Senate Faculty Grievances –Senate Faculty Disciplinary Cases –Early Termination Cases

Faculty Welfare Committee Reviews Matters and Develops Policies that Impact the Welfare of UCSF Faculty Current Issues Include : –Affordable Housing –Medical Insurance Plans (Including Mental Health Benefits) –Disability –Parking –Child Care –Tuition Benefits for Faculty –Retirement 6

Committee on Research FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES Research Grants Include : –Individual Investigator Awards - Up to $35,000 Maximum Award ( Fall and Spring Funding Cycles) –Shared Equipment Grants - Up to $40,000 Maximum Award (Winter Funding Cycle) –Travel Grants – For Faculty with 5 years or less at UCSF. Grant amounts up to $500 for airfare to present original research or attend meetings of learned societies. (July-December and January- June Funding Cycles) 7
