The Man Born in Blue Island, Illinois on August 23 rd 1932 Studied at the Paris Conservatory at the age of 30 Studied under Marcel Mule while in Paris in 1962 Earned his doctorate from the University of Iowa

World Saxophone Congress Rousseau helped to form the World Saxophone Congress in It first met that same year in Chicago. The World Saxophone Congress meets every three years for five days. It gathers around 1000 saxophonist from around the world. It is an opportunity for everyone to hear many performances and styles. The World Saxophone Congress has met for four decades. It met most recently in Slovenia in July of 2006.

Sponsorship Since 1972, Rousseau has been Yamaha’s go-to-guy for saxophone research and development. Rousseau mainly plays on Yamaha saxophones and especially on soprano. (pictured right)

Rousseau Mouthpieces Since 1970 his own line of mouthpieces have been in production. Styles range from classical to jazz mouthpieces and even metal jazz mouthpieces. (left)

The man…cont. Taught at Indiana University from 1964 to 2000, one of his students was Akron’s own Rich Shanklin. Now teaches at Minnesota University since fall of 2000 after leaving Indiana. He has hosted the 13 th annual World Saxophone Congress in 2003 and 14 th annual in 2006.
