Connections between CS and other disciplines Issues to keep in mind: –Cannot just be a service provider – have to participate in a true collaboration Need to overcome cultural barriers (e.g. between life scientists and CS/engineers) – on publishing, on data sharing Need to identify problems that require comparable contributions, novel developments from each side Need to educate each side on accepted practices, e.g. on evaluation –As computer science broadens its base, this will require changes in curriculum and changes in type of student Students may not know, or need to know, all parts of computer science, especially if they have to acquire knowledge of a different area Need to adjust curriculum to enable this
