Impressions We Had...

Romania...History, Culture, People Population: 21,700,000 Languages: Romanian, Hungarian, German, French, English History Strong roots in Communism, especially under Nicolae Ceausescu after the World Wars Under his rule, people were forced to live a very low standard of life Culture Very rich in tradition - festivals with traditional dancing, wood carvings, skillfully woven carpets and pottery, folk art People People in the small towns and villages outside the cities have changed their lifestyle very little over the years Not uncommon that the villagers will use horse- drawn carriages

Our Focus in Targu Mures... YWAM Targu Mures Helping the base wherever needed, in the different areas of their outreach to the community (discipling families, etc.); in mercy ministries (orphans, the poor); and in church empowerment. The base has a special focus on reaching Slavic, Islamic, and Jewish people. We will have opportunity to run with our own program in the afternoons, doing what we can to reach people through worship, testimonies, games, and activities.

YWAM Base & Staff in Targu Mures Creative Ideas for Our Programs The People of Romania (Pray for godly leaders, communist ties to break, sadness to leave the land)

Ukraine – A Quick History Population: 45,870,700 Languages: Ukrainian, Russian, Hebrew, German Romania fights with Russia against Germany Abandoned by the Western powers, Romania fell under control of the Russians. December 1947, Communist regime begins Banks, industry and means of transport are nationalized The path to freedom, democracy and free economy is not so simple. Wrong decisions, lack of experience and political fights prevent Romania moving fast in development Romania becomes a NATO member (2004) and an EU member (2007)

Our Focus in Lutsk...  100,000 orphans live in Ukraine’s 450 orphanages  100,000 more children are on the streets because the orphanages are full  60% of the girls end up in prostitution  70% of the boys end up in crime  400,000 estimated in Ukraine  Gypsies have always been persecuted and are the poorest of society  The education level of gypsies is the lowest in the country  Inadequate education and professional training, together with distrust resulted in almost 100% unemployment of gypsies

Open Doors & Open Hearts Orphans & Adoption into Healthy Families Gypsy Outreach & Street Ministry People of Ukraine (communist ties broken, depression broken over land) Group Prayer Points for Ukraine
