When you have reached mid-way through your program of study, you are ready for the PRE-Qualifying phase! Whoo-hoo! You will be ready to submit a organization of materials related to your course work! We will now begin discussing the components of the pre-qual packet. The pre-qual packet consists of your Reflections, an action plan, a revised manuscript, and an annotated bibliography of the key texts that you believe are central to understanding the course concepts. The thought of preparing your pre-qual packet may seem like a daunting, overwhelming task, but Have no fear. You are already working on it! NEW SLIDE Let’s begin with the annotated bibliography section of the pre-qual packet. One thing I like about GSU COE’s doc program, is the flexibility to be creative and unique. No two pre-qual packets look alike. I will show you how several of my colleagues and I have arranged our annotated bibs as well as course descriptions. First, pull out one of your syllabi and look for the texts that were required or optional. Prepare an annotated bib for the required texts. Then, select one or more of the texts that you found interesting or central to the course description. Prepare annotated bibs for those as well. Sounds like a lot? If you begin doing this during or at the end of each semester, this task will not appear so immense. Additionally, you may already have annotated bibliographies, book reviews, precis papers, etc that can be used! Reflection, Annotated Bibliography, Action Plan, Revised Manuscript Consider using a piece of your work that has publication potential.

Reflections… I am a wife. I am a sister. I am a daughter. I am a student. I am an educator. Reflections? Who were you when you began this program? What did you expect from the program? What did you expect from yourself? How has your thinking changed as a result of your study? What/who has guided you through the process? How did/do you identify yourself? Begin thinking about who you have become and what you are passionate about. This will lead you to consider your ACTION PLAN

Reflection “ As I listened to the professor and more seasoned graduate students, I wondered, what am I doing here? Say that word again? And where is my dictionary? Many of these terms were new to me and I began to second guess my decision to pursue this degree.” -Kamania Wynter-Hoyte

Action Plan Where to from here?

Revising a Paper
