Library Races Objective: students apply knowledge of library layout and are able to find texts from certain series or about certain subjects. Age approximation: grades K-4 (note that there are two levels of gameboards) Materials needed: game boards: print on cardstock and laminate. Then use a brass fastener to hold a paperclip spinner in the center. The basic game: –2 students spin and must race to find what they are looking for in the library. –To win, the student must be first with the find, they must explain how they found it, and prove it meets the criteria. Ideas for enhancement: –This is great for the end of library time while waiting for students to finish checking out or for the teacher to arrive. –Customize the game to review recent objectives/subjects or to (pre)assess student knowledge of the library layout. –This is a great activity for the beginning of the year to help students get (re)aquainted with the library layout.
