Presentation transcript:

This is a PowerPoint Presentation You can use this application to present ideas and information with text, pictures, sounds, animation, and video!

This presentation is about file management. What does your computer desktop look like? Where do you store your files? How do you organize your files? Do you name your file 8.3? Do you always make a back up?

Does your desktop look like this? Folders and files everywhere No organization Nothing stored in a safe place

Or this? Files neatly separated and labeled Folders stored in safe place

Where do you store your files? Personal Server Space Zip disk Floppy disk Scratch disk Desktop or hard drive space on personal computer

How do you organize your files? Create directories and subdirectories (folders) that are easy to remember and to find.

Name file 8.3 The “8” is for eight characters, NO CAPS and no20%spaces!! The “dot” separates the file name from the extension (application) code. Windows adds this automatically, Mac users need to type it in. The “3” abbreviates the program you are using. 8.3!

Commonly used applications Microsoft Word……doc PowerPoint……ppt Jpeg image…..jpg Excel file…..xls Quicktime movie….mov Graphic……gif

Do you always make a back-up? Once you’ve finished working on a file, and have saved it as 8.3, then do “save as” and choose another location and save again.

Happy file management! Remember, a clean desktop is a happy desktop. 8.3 names will function better in transfer. Folders are your friends.
