Purpose of the Induction Programme (1) The Next Step Induction Programme is intended to build your understanding of and knowledge about Next Step to: –Provide a better service for customers –Increase impact and support progression for customers –Increase the professionalism of individual staff and the service

Purpose of the Induction Programme (2) The Next Step Induction Programme: –has been developed with the aim of providing all staff with information about: the philosophy and processes that underpin the Next Step service; the commitments and promises to customers; specific tools and key processes; the Next Step brand. –provides a national approach to the induction of staff into the Next Step service. –complements and supplements, rather than replaces, the responsibility of Prime Contractors and sub-contractors to provide a range of induction and training

Operating Instructions and the Next Step Induction Programme The Next Step Induction Programme is based on the Operating Instructions for the Next Step Service The Operating Instructions are the ‘rules’ within which the Next Step Service operates You need to make sure you are familiar with the Operating Instructions and these can be found within the Next Step Induction Programme Your line manager will be kept up to date with any changes to the Operating Instructions and you also need to make sure you stay up to date

Introduction to Next Step Induction Programme 2 versions focussing on key areas of knowledge for delivering the Next Step service Advisers Managers and Administrators such as IT, HR, Facilities, policy staff, etc. Individual Modules with: Sets of questions to help you assess knowledge and understanding Links to other information and resources Links to the Operating Instructions for the service

Using the Next Step Induction Programme (1) To use the Next Step Induction Programme –Choose the version that suits your role of Adviser or Manager or Administrator and enter the site –Work through the modules on the left hand side of the page beginning with an Introduction to the Next Step Induction Programme Work through all the modules either in one go or over a number of sessions The Programme is designed to be completed within 10 days of beginning the programme

Using the Next Step Induction Programme (2) There are eight Adviser modules –Module 1 Introduction to the Next Step Induction Programme –Module 2 Next Step, a single integrated service: policy context, key elements and resources –Module 3 A single integrated service: ways of working –Module 4 Summary of key messages for the new Next Step service –Module 5 Skills Action Plans –Module 6 Working with individuals, working with groups –Module 7 Labour Market Information (LMI) and Qualifications –Module 8 Test your knowledge of the Operating Instructions

Using the Next Step Induction Programme (3) There are seven Manager and Administrator modules –Module 1 Introduction to the Next Step Induction Programme –Module 2 Next Step, a single integrated service: policy context, key elements and resources –Module 3 A single integrated service: Contracting and management arrangements –Module 4 A single integrated service: Quality Assurance –Module 5 A single integrated service: Ways of working –Module 6 Summary of key messages for the new Next Step service –Module 7 Test your knowledge of the Operating Instructions

Using the Next Step Induction Programme (4) The Induction Programme also allows you to: –Track Your Progress as you work through the modules to see which modules have been completed. –Use the Notepad function to make or ‘cut and paste’ any useful notes as you go along. Notes can also be saved into a Word document.

Using the Next Step Induction Programme (5) Work your way through all the modules Answer the questions in the modules as you go along – they have been developed to help you reflect on your learning You will be told if the answer is correct or incorrect You will be directed to the relevant section of Operating Instructions if the answer is incorrect.

Test Your knowledge of the Operating Instructions Module Seven (Manager and Administrator) and Module Eight (Adviser) contain a number of multiple choice questions to enable you to check your knowledge of the Operating Instructions. –Work through the questions in order, checking your answers as you go and referring back to the Operating Instructions as necessary. The arrow at the side will open up the relevant operating instructions. –There may be more than one answer required for each question, you will be told when this is the case. –If you answer a question incorrectly you will not be able to progress until the question is answered correctly. –You do not have to complete the questions all in one go as the questions that have been completed will be highlighted indicating which are still outstanding. You are expected to complete all of them. –You can check your progress using the ‘ Track Your Progress’, this highlights the areas still to be completed.
