U.S. Status of Research In 2001, George W. Bush limited stem cell lines to those derived from embryos before 9 pm on August 9. California introduced legislation that would allow research without federal funds. Stem cells are hard to find. Bresagen Inc, ESCell International, University of California at San Francisco, WiCell Research Institute.

Worldwide Status of Research European Union has similar constraints at the United States. Canada, Australia, China, Sweden, Singapore, and India permit research.

Clonaid Three years ago, Raël, the well-known spiritual leader of the Raelian Movement, the world's largest UFO- related organization counting 55,000 people in 84 countries, founded CLONAID™, the first company offering to clone human beings.

The Hollywood effect When Jaws was released, it made people terrified of great white sharks and afraid to swim. The 6 th Day has a similar effect on peoples perception of cloning technology. Could weaken support for cloning and stem cell research.

The Hollywood Effect Gattaca Brave New World The issues in these works are currently being addressed by bioethics committees across the globe.

Why its all important While the ethical battle of stem cell research and cloning will never be won, a compromise needs to occur so United States and European research can progress. Quality of life may improve. Peoples perception of the technology will determine the ultimate acceptance or failure.
