Cell Phones……. OUT of your pocket UP on your desk Turned OFF

2 parts of Driver’s Ed……… Classroom Instruction: 30 hours Behind the Wheel: 6 hours After the classroom part is finished, you will be scheduled for BTW in order of your birthdate. This will probably happen within 1-2 months after this class, but it could be more than that, depending on how old you are now.

After that…………….. When you have passed your Classroom Instruction AND your Behind The Wheel sessions…. You can get a “Level 1 Limited Learners Permit” when you turn 15 years old! (Note: If Driver’s Ed is not taken at a certified driving school, there is no permit possible, nor can you get a license at age 16 without one. You will have to turn 18 before going to get your license.) We will talk more about the different levels of Learners Permit another day.

A few class rules and procedures: Each day’s class meets from 2:30-5:30 – except…. Fridays: get out at 5:15! The Last Day: Parent Meeting at 5:00 in the Media Center, so class is over at 5:00 that day. The NC DMV requirements are 30 hours of classroom instruction: 10 days x 3 hours/day = 30 hours. ALL missed time MUST be made up. If not, you won’t meet the DMV 30 hour requirement, and you won’t pass this course! All school rules apply in this course, including dress code, cell phones, and head phones. Have your ride here at 5:30 each day

How should I act in Drivers Ed? Be Responsible Act in a Mature Manner Make Good Decisions In general, behave as if you are ready to take control of a car!

These things will get you dismissed/failed from the course: Using a cell phone or head phones in the classroom Accessing any web site that isn’t part of the instruction Missing more than one day – this will cause you to fail the course automatically Cheating on any test Being repeatedly disruptive in class Leaving the 1st floor of the building during breaks or after class, except when we are in my classroom. * Per WCPSS policy, students who are dismissed from the course OR who fail the course do NOT get a refund and are NOT able to take a Driver’s Ed course again at any WCPSS school in the future.

Daily Activities and Procedures Each day, we will begin with a 10 minute activity to get warmed up. I will usually take these up. Each day, I will give you a time schedule as to what will be happening that afternoon. We take a break almost every day at 4:00-4:15. It’s different sometimes, though, so listen up! Occasionally, we will meet in my classroom – 2314 – instead, so listen up!

More Daily Procedures Some students will be sitting out in the Media Center to do their On-Line work, but everyone always starts in this room. Do you get to sit where you want? Sorta. If you are a behavior problem, though, then I will assign you a permanent, “special” seat. If you are a behavior problem, I will also call your parents during class.

Head Phones……. To listen to music while working on-line? NO, absolutely not – it’s against Jordan Driving School and NC DMV regulations. To listen to text while viewing Powerpoints? Yes, but…………… > Don’t do this too much. You will NEVER finish the material by the end of the course; reading it is much faster than listening to it.

The Grades in this Class….. Pass/Fail – you will NOT be receiving an A,B,C,D,F grade on your report card The On-Line Modules – each test must be taken and passed with at least a 70 Should you do better than an 70? > YES! You are preparing to have control of a 2000-lb vehicle traveling at a rate of 100 feet/second! I want you to make 100’s! Can better test grades help offset a poor final exam grade? > YES! Will the other in-class assignments be graded and will they count on my grade?

More about the On-Line Part……. There are 11 Modules; we will go through 9 of them. We will take quizzes in all of the modules and tests in some of them. We will do Module 7 first, then start with Module 1. Each Module has three or four quizzes interspersed throughout the material. Read each slide, take the quizzes, and pass them – doing your best – but…. Do NOT retake quizzes over and over just so you can make a 100 – the tests are by far the most important.

On-Line Part again….. Each Module has a test at its end; your goal is at least an 80 on each test. Tests can be retaken, and I will only count your highest score; the others will be dropped. Unless you are working at home, don’t take a test more than twice. If you get behind, this can be worked on at home. By the end of the course (Wednesday, May 20), you MUST have completed the 9 Modules and have passed each of the quizzes and test I assign to you. Just like a regular class, your final course grade will be calculated from your assignments, your test grades and the score you make on the final exam.
