What Types of Nursing Programs Do We Offer? Practical Nursing Certificate 1 year Program: prepares you to sit for NCLEX – PN (State Boards) For students who do NOT have an LPN license Associate in Applied Science Degree in Nursing 1 year Program: prepares you to sit for NCLEX – RN (State Boards) For students who are Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) Recommend meeting with an Advisor We do NOT offer a 2 year traditional RN Program

Step 1 - Applying to SCC Complete and submit a SCC Admissions Application No Fee Submit official high school transcript or GED, along with official college transcript (if applicable) Register to take the ACCUPLACER placement test or provide proof (contact admissions for exemptions) Submit proof of immunization for measles, mumps and rubella (if born after 1956)

Admission Process into Nursing Program Same for both Programs – LPN and LPN to RN Applying to SCC Sign Up & Take ATI TEAS V – Nursing Entrance Exam - $70 After Meeting Admissions Criteria – Apply to Nursing Program ALL Nursing Applicants: Need a minimum of 50% in Math & Reading ADN Applicants: total score of 60% or higher PN Applicants: total score of 50% or higher Complete Rubric & Student Checklist Submit Packets: Documents: ATI Transcript, Rubric Sheet, Student Checklist, High School / GED & College Official Sealed Transcripts (if applicable), ADN applicants - a copy of an active LPN license

Step 2 - Preparing for ATI TEAS V Start Studying for ATI TEAS V – Nursing Entrance Exam Topics: Reading - Math - Science - English & Language Usage Study Guides and Practice exams can be purchased at SCC’s bookstore or ATI Website: www.atitesting.com TEAS V study manual and online practice assessments (form A and B) cost $109.00

Useful Information about ATI TEAS V –   What does the TEAS® test stand for? Test of Essential Academic Skills What is the format of the ATI TEAS® V Test? It is a computerized test that takes a maximum of 209 minutes or about 3.5 hours and includes 150 scored multiple-choice questions divided into: Reading – Paragraph and Passage Comprehension, and Informational Source Comprehension Math – Numbers and Operations, Algebraic Applications, Data Interpretation, and Measurement Science –Human Body Science, Life Science, Earth and Physical Science, Scientific Reasoning English and Language Usage – Grammar and Word Meanings in Context, Spelling and Punctuation, Structure How long will the test take? - It is a computerized test that takes a maximum of 209 minutes (3.5/hrs) and includes 150 scored multiple- choice questions – NO CALCULATORS

Questions and Answers – Cont. (ATI TEAS V) What are the Scores needed to Apply? ALL Nursing Applicants: A minimum of 50% in Math & Reading must be met ADN: a total score of 60% or higher will be accepted for consideration; however, a score of 70% or higher is preferred. PN: a total score of 50% or higher will be accepted for consideration; however, a score of 58% or higher is preferred. How long are the scores valid? - 2 years Is there a study guide? - Yes, SCC’s Bookstore or online – same -$109 How many times may I take the ATI exam in one year? – Three Times Is there a waiting period between test dates? – Yes, 45 days Should I retake the exam to get a higher score? – Yes, if you think you can increase your score There is no penalty for retesting

Step 3 - Signing up for TEAS Sign up for ATI TEAS V – Nursing Entrance Exam - $70 Dates and Times are on SCC Website TEAS must be taken on SCC Campus Your TEAS scores are valid for two years from the time taken You can take the TEAS 3 times in 1 year 365 days from 1st test date E.G., March 15, 2014 to March 15, 2015 – 3 exams can be taken.

Step 4 - Meeting Admissions Criteria ALL Nursing Applicants: Need a minimum of 50% in Math & Reading “College Ready” to take A/P 1 & ENG 101 ADN Applicants: A total score of 60% or higher will be accepted for consideration; however, a score of 70% or higher is preferred. PN Applicants: A total score of 50% or higher will be accepted for consideration; however, a score of 58% or higher is preferred. “College Ready” to take ENG 101

ADN and PN Rubric for Class Grades BIO 220 - Anatomy & Physiology I Science Courses BIO 221 - Anatomy & Physiology II ENG 101 - English Composition I ENG 102 - English Composition II Grade and Eligible Points Earned: A 6 pts A- 5 pts B+ 4 pts B 3 pts B- 2 pts C+ 1 pt *A point is deducted each time BIO 220, BIO 221, ENG 101 & ENG 102 are retaken. *Only grades of C+ or higher count towards Rubric. Exception: students with a C+ or higher who repeat a class due to 5-year limit on BIO 220 & 221 will not have points deducted. *Courses and grades must be on an official SCC transcript in order to be counted on the rubric.

ATI TEAS V Score: Maximum of 100 points - write in your "Total Score" earned. The ATI TEAS V test must be taken at SCC Your TEAS scores are valid for two years from the time taken You can take the TEAS 3 times in 1 year (365 days from 1st test date) e.g., March 15, 2014 to March 15, 2015 – 3 exams can be taken You are not penalized for retaking TEAS Test every 45 days ** ALL Nursing Applicants: Reading & Math Students must have a minimum scores of 50% in each category ADN TEAS Score: a total score of 60% or higher will be accepted for consideration; however, a score of 70% or higher is preferred PN TEAS Score: a total score of 50% or higher will be accepted for consideration; however, a score of 58% or higher is preferred

Work Experience (W.E.) ADN Applicants ONLY! 1 point ** Work Experience – LPN’s ONLY. 1 point for work experience greater than 1 year as an LPN = 1point ----Letter from HR Dept. stating time of employment Salem County Residents (SCR) and/or SCC Students (SCCS) - 1 point (ONLY) Current Salem County Residents (SCR) and/or recent SCC Students (SCCS) You need to be a recent SCC Student within the last 12 months! Include a copy of Government Issued ID, e.g., Drivers License, HS, or SCC current ID Add up the Total Points Earned: Maximum Points Earned=126: Classes = 24, TEAS 100, W.E.=1, SCR/SCCS=1 for a Total 126

Step 5 - Complete Rubric & Checklist Add each section of Rubric, if applicable, for the total number of points earned Class Grade(s) TEAS "Total" Score Work Experience - ADN Applicants ONLY Salem County Residents or Current SCC Students Add up Total Points Earned Highest possible points earned is: 126 points Complete Application Checklist

A Few Reminders Prerequisites are NOT required nor necessary when applying to the Nursing Program! ADN Students - Must be "College Ready" to take: English 101 and Anatomy & Physiology I during Summer of 2015! Important Dates to Remember ATI TEAS V – ENTRANCE EXAM You will be able to register after October 15, 2014 Dates are posted on the SCC website This exam, taken by prospective nursing students, cost $70 (nonrefundable and nontransferable) Register online at www.atitesting.com Instructions are on the SCC website under “Nursing Center” Nursing Packets MUST be submitted by April 08, 2015 Delivered to Tillis Hall, Room 215, by 3 pm LATE OR INCOMPLETE PACKETS WILL BE REJECTED Notification of conditional acceptance will be no later than May 22, 2015 Via telephone calls and letters Verify phone number, address and program on packet
