Every person does this about 20,000 times per day.

What is breathe in and out?

This stuff is in our air and can make it harder to breathe.

What is air pollution?

These people exercise outside a lot, which means they breathe deeper and may breathe in more air pollution.

Who are athletes?

These body parts are “gas exchangers” that are always at work.

What are the lungs?

These people tend to have more health problems, and so they are more likely to have bad reactions to air pollution.

Who are seniors?

These green areas are better places to exercise and play because they are usually further away from traffic.

What are parks?

Choices we make, such as driving our cars less and walking or cycling more, can help improve this.

What is air quality?

Doing this for just 10 seconds can use more gas than turning off the car engine, and then restarting it.

What is idling your vehicle? (running a vehicle while stopped)

This thing creates 50 % more air pollution if it’s not running properly.

What is your vehicle?

This activity replaces up to 4 cars on the road and can save time and money.

What is carpooling?

A full one of these takes up to 60 cars off the road.

What is a bus?

Your school might encourage students to do this more to make the air quality better.

What is walk to school? bike skateboard carpool

This activity makes the most air pollution in Canada.

What is transportation

If parents did less of this in the winter, there would be less air pollution around schools.

What is idle vehicles? (keep vehicles running)

Kids and parents can use this Index on a daily basis to see what the air quality is like in their community

What is the Air Quality Health Index?

This is the #1 cause of hospital visits for children in Canada.

What is asthma?

Kids are more sensitive to air pollution because they do more of this than adults, especially during summer.

What is play outside?

Children do this thing faster than adults.

What is breathe?

These naturally happen in forests and can bring air pollution into cities, cause poor air quality, decrease visibility and impact human health.

What are forest fires?

Everybody can check this Index each day before school and work to help plan their daily outdoor activities.

What is the Air Quality Health Index

This gas up in the atmosphere protects us from the sun’s rays, but is pollution near the ground where we breathe

What is ozone?

20% of the vehicles on the road travel for less than ____ minutes in one car trip.

What is 2 minutes?

Running your gas lawnmower for this many hours is equal to driving a new car between about 400 kilometres.

What is one hour?

This is the number of Canadians who use public transit on a regular basis.

What is 12 million?

When the Air Quality Health Index is high, you can do this to help protect your health.

What is change or reschedule your outdoor activity?

Play the Air Quality Health Index Jeopardy Game
