Ser means to be refers to characteristics/conditions that do not change (permanent): a.Who a person is or what a person is like b. What something is or like ejemplo: Teresa is a nervous person. Teresa es una persona nerviosa. ejemplo: Tacos are my favorite food. Tacos son mí comida favorita.

c. Where a person or thing is from ejemplo: The book is from México. El libro es de México. d. Telling time ejemplo: It is nine o’clock. Son las nueve.

SER vs. ESTAR am, is are *Note: Ser = to be (soy, eres, es, somos, son) 1. Refers to characteristics/conditions that don’t tend to change. It describes what a person/thing is like. Estar = to be (estoy, estás, está, estamos, están) 1. Refers to characteristics/conditions that can change. 2. Refers to where people/things are from. 2. Refers to location; where people/things are at. 3. Used to tell time.
