The verb estar

The -ar verbs you have used until now are called regular verbs because they follow a regular pattern. Verbs that do not follow a regular pattern are called irregular verbs. The nosotros/as form is always the same as in the regular form pattern Estar is irregular because the yo form doesn’t follow a regular pattern and because the forms estás, está, and están require accent marks. Use estar to tell how someone feels or where someone or something is located. The verb estar

We use ESTAR with feelings and emotions  Yo estoy bien. I am well.  ¿Cómo estás? How are you?

To express a location ¿ Dónde están ellos.? Where are they? Yo estoy en la clase de español. I am in Spanish class.

Preposition continued When the preposition DE is followed by the masculine DEFINITE ARTICLE “EL,” (de el) this MUST change to “DEL.” EX: Wrong La papelera está al lado de el escritorio. Ex:Right La papelera está al lado del escritorio.
