2 HISTCAPE - HISTorical assets and related landsCAPE Cultural Heritage Directorate-General of Rhineland-Palatinate (Generaldirektion Kulturelles Erbe (GDKE) Rheinland-Pfalz) Six specialist departments with centralised administration and marketing, as well as a building and technology department under the umbrella of the Cultural Heritage Directorate-General: Castles, Palaces, Antique Rhineland-Palatinate Archaeology Ancient Monument Preservation State Museum, Mainz State Museum, Koblenz Rhenish Museum, Trier 360 employees are responsible for the maintenance, research and presentation of the States cultural heritage. As the superordinate ancient monument authority, the Cultural Heritage Directorate-General works together with 36 subordinate local authorities.

As a result of demographic developments, the majority of villages are affected by a dramatic change in living conditions.
