Apuntes: Short & Long Possessive Adjectives & Possessive Pronouns

my: mi, mis our: nuestro/a/os/as your: tu, tus your: vuestro/a/os/as your (ud) su, sus your (pl): su, sus his/her su, sus their: su, sus Short Forms of the Possessive Adjectives: Place BEFORE the noun: su carro

mine: mío /a/os/as yours: tuyo /a/os/as his/her/your: suyo /a/os/as ours: nuestro /a/os/as your: vuestro / a/os/as their/you (pl): suyo /a/os/as Long Forms of the Possessive Adjectives: Place AFTER the noun: el carro es suyo

Long Forms of the Possessive Adjectives: Place AFTER the noun: el carro es suyo Unless it is in a question: ¿Es suyo el carro? Place BEFORE the noun: su carro Short Forms of the Possessive Adjectives:

1. This is my car. 2. This car is mine. 3. His car is fast. 4. That car is hers. 5. Their car is red. 6. This car is theirs. Translate: Éste es mi carro. Este carro es mío. Su carro es rápido. Ese carro es suyo. Su carro es rojo. Este carro es suyo.

Since su/sus, suyo/a/os/as have so many meanings, you need to use NOUN + DE to clarify su carro; el carro suyo: his car  her car  you guys’ car  their car  your car  el carro de él el carro de ella el carro de usted el carro de ellos/as el carro de ustedes

When the noun is obvious, you can create a possessive pronoun with the long forms: His car is red and mine is black. Su carro es rojo y el mío es negro.

1. His car is fast, but mine is elegant. 2. Their house is dirty; ours is clean. 3. Her parents are young; theirs are old. Translate: Su carro es rápido pero el mío es elegante. Su casa está sucia; la nuestra está limpia. Los padres de ella son jóvenes; los de ellos son mayores.
