Prevention is Far Better Than Cure Dr Abhimanyu Makane Aditya Birla Memorial Hospital, Pune. Sterling Multispecialty Hospital, Nigdi, Pune Ruby Hall Clinic, Pune

Outline.. What we think about being healthy? What is being healthy in fact? How to diagnose ill-health? How a doctor can help you to avoid a doctor? What I think is not important but what research says is…

A Popular Myth Multivitamin and Mineral supplements added benefit to a balanced, healthful diet

United States Preventive Services Task Force A 2013 systematic review of randomized trials (for efficacy) and both trials and observational studies (for safety) performed – Limited evidence for preventing cancer or cardiovascular disease – Borderline significant reduction in the risk of cancer – No effect on cardiovascular disease – Multivitamin supplementation also did not appear to reduce the risk of mortality. – No benefit on cognitive function – A small reduction in the risk of cataracts with multivitamin supplementation

Risky Heart Health Myths I would know if I had high blood pressure or high cholesterol. Exercise is too risky if you have heart disease. Once I Have Heart Disease, That's It!!!

Management Standards for Work Related Stress Demands – Workload, work patterns and the work environment. Control – Who decides how a work is done? Support – Encouragement, sponsorship and resources provided by the organisation, line management and colleagues. Relationships – Promoting positive working to avoid conflict and dealing with unacceptable behaviour. Role – whether people understand their role within the organisation and whether the organisation ensures that they do not have conflicting roles. Change – How organisational change (large or small) is managed and communicated in the organisation.

Thanks…
