Mexican non-words of the day Cholos Fresa Paisa

So you want to learn Spanish… A guide to pronouncing words so well that people think you know what they mean. In English, if you see a vowel it could make any sound in the world. Even a made-up sound. In Spanish, each vowel has its own sound. Always, no matter what. No short vowels, long vowels, upside down Es, nothing. A=Ah(like father) E=A(like ate) I=E(like Lisa) O=Oh(like no) U=OO(like flute) Y=E(like Lisa again)

A few more ways to sound like you really know Spanish: Vowels always keep their sound. When there are two or more vowels next to each other, just say each sound alone and then put it together. The only exception is for Q and G, do not say the U after these letters (unless it has the funny dots above it). LL makes a Y sound. Tor-tee-ya, not Tor-till-a. R almost makes a really light D sound. No, you do not have to roll your Rs, just make the D sound.

En México, debes comer tacos al pastor.

Time to practice!

Es importante no preguntar qué estás comiendo.

Deberías comer tacos de la calle, pero hay que tener cuidado.

Show me what you know. On page 102 at the bottom, do activity 12. I want one sentence using the past tense, to tell me what Hipólito did in class. I want another sentence after that using an Advice phrase telling Hipólito what he should do. Leave the verbs in the infinitive for this one (-ar, -er, -ir)
