 There is another kind of irregular verb in the preterite. These have irregular roots you will need to memorize, but all use the same endings.

-e-imos -iste-isteis -o-ieron -o-ieron

 Adnar (to walk)  anduv-  Estar (to be)  estuv-  Tener (to receive/get)  tuv-  Caber (to fit)  cup-  Haber (have…(not the normal “to have” actually used like to have done something))  hub-  Poder (to succeed)  pud-  Poner (to put/place)  pus-  Saber (to find out)  sup-  Querer (to try)  quis-  Venir (to come)  vin-

 Some verbs have different meanings in the preterite and imperfect.  You don’t need to worry about that for now beyond knowing the ones on this sheet.  We’ll discuss them in more detail when we get to the imperfect.
