Noun-Adjective Agreement ¡Avancemos!, p.66

Adjectives are words that describe nouns. In English, the adjective almost always comes before the noun. In Spanish, the adjective usually comes after the noun. the serious students vs. los estudiantes serios adjective noun noun adjective

In Spanish, adjectives must agree with the nouns that they modify in both gender and number. Singular Plural Masculine el chico alto los chicos altos Feminine la chica alta las chicas altas

To form feminine adjectives... Words that end in -o can be changed to -a Adjectives ending in -e are neutral; they can be used with both genders Most adjectives that end in consonants can be used with both genders. Ex: joven For other adjectives (those that end in -r), it is necessary to add an -a to form the feminine Ex: trabajador → trabajadora

To form plural adjectives If an adjective ends in a vowel, just add -s Ex: inteligente → inteligentes If an adjective ends in a consonant, add -es Ex: joven → jóvenes, trabajador → trabajadores
