Doing business with God What is my heart’s desire? What has this got to do with my God? Cry out to God with my heart’s desire. Remember, mull over, meditate, consider who my God is/was and will be. God is my faithful creator, righteous judge & merciful rescuer. My soul thirsts for him – I cry out to him

1 Samuel 20:30 Saul's anger flared up.. and he said to Jonathan.. 20:31 “As long as the son of Jesse lives on this earth, neither you nor your kingdom will be established. Now send and bring him to me, for he must die!” 20:42 Jonathan said to David, "Go in peace, for we have sworn friendship with each other in the name of the LORD 21:10 David fled from Saul and 22:1 escaped to the cave of Adullam. When his brothers and his father's household heard about it, they went down to him there. 22:2 All those who were in distress or in debt or discontented gathered round him, and he became their leader. About four hundred men were with him.

which includes meditation

Psalm O LORD, hear my prayer, listen to my cry (for mercy); in your faithfulness and righteousness (come to my relief). 2 Do not bring your servant into judgment, for no-one living is righteous before you. 3 The enemy pursues me, he crushes me to the ground; he makes me dwell in darkness like those long dead. 4 So my spirit grows faint within me; my heart within me is dismayed. 5 I remember the days of long ago; I meditate on all your works and consider what your hands have done. 6 I spread out my hands to you; my soul thirsts for you like a parched land. Selah God is my faithful creator, righteous judge & merciful rescuer. My soul thirsts for him – I cry out to him

7 Answer me quickly, O LORD; my spirit fails. Do not hide your face from me or I will be like those who go down to the pit. 8 Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul. 9 Rescue me from my enemies, O LORD, for I hide myself in you. 10 Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground. 11 For your name's sake, O LORD, preserve my life; in your righteousness, bring me out of trouble. 12 In your unfailing love, silence my enemies; destroy all my foes, for I am your servant. Thank God for his Word to us God is my faithful creator, righteous judge & merciful rescuer. My soul thirsts for him – I cry out to him

Remembering the death and resurrection of the one who is our life and our meaning, we come first to die to all that is loveless and death dealing in our lives. Jesus commands us to love God with all our heart and soul, mind and strength. Silence to consider the reality of our living My brothers and sisters, I have not kept this commandment; forgive my godlessness and pray for me, that God will light the fire of his love in my heart. Jesus commands us to love our neighbours in the same way that we love ourselves. Silence, to think about what we have been I have been selfish, hard-hearted and mean spirited. Forgive me, my friends, and pray that God’s grace will melt and warm my heart. God is my faithful creator, righteous judge & merciful rescuer. My soul thirsts for him – I cry out to him

Jesus the one seed dies Through death and new life He produces many seeds We too must die to live In making bread, grain is crushed, poured with oil, and baked through fire. In becoming one loaf, each grain trades individualism and independence For community and interdependence As we die to ourselves, we live for God, for each other and for the world around us Are we living as individual grains in a baking tin? Or as a loaf that feeds the world? Do we taste and smell like freshly baked bread? Or are we stale and mouldy? Our death brings life to others – this is church. God is my faithful creator, righteous judge & merciful rescuer. My soul thirsts for him – I cry out to him

Invitation Come, If you have much faith and if you have little, Come, if you have been here often and if you have not been for a long time, Come, if you have tried to follow and if you have failed. Come, old and young, if you desire to love the Lord, to meet with Him God is my faithful creator, righteous judge & merciful rescuer. My soul thirsts for him – I cry out to him

Thanksgiving Remember God’s people fleeing Egypt in terror, eating the bread that had no time to rise, sharing a feast of freedom and faith. Picture how David outlawed and hungry, goes to God’s house and demands to be fed, grabs a meal on the run of God’s holy bread. To the God who makes bread and feeds the hungry we give thanks. God is my faithful creator, righteous judge & merciful rescuer. My soul thirsts for him – I cry out to him

Imagine Elijah tired of the journey, longing for death given bread from God’s hand, rising to life with the strength to go on. Come to the desert to hear Jesus teaching, sit in the crowd as you watch him bless bread, eat and be filled, sense the kingdom is here To the God who blesses bread and strengthens the weary we give thanks. God is my faithful creator, righteous judge & merciful rescuer. My soul thirsts for him – I cry out to him

Join in the song as Mary rejoices, pregnant with promise of life for the world, good things for the hungry – an end to the proud. To the God who breaks bread and breaks the mighty we give thanks. God is my faithful creator, righteous judge & merciful rescuer. My soul thirsts for him – I cry out to him

We remember… Paul said that he received from the Lord what he handed on to the church at Corinth that … The Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took a loaf of bread and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me”. In the same way he took the cup also, after supper, saying “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this as often as you drink it in remembrance of me”. Paul reminds us that as often as we eat this bread and drink the cup, we proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes. All who desire to love the Lord Jesus and meet with him are welcome to take the bread and a cup. Please eat the bread when it is offered to you; please retain the cup, so that we may drink all together as one body

Take this in remembrance that Christ died for you and feed on him in your heart by faith with thanksgiving. Drink this remembering that Christ’s blood was shed for you and be thankful. God is my faithful creator, righteous judge & merciful rescuer. My soul thirsts for him – I cry out to him

Holy God, we have been fed and had our thirst quenched, through bread broken and wine poured in thanksgiving for your Son Jesus Christ. Send us out to be as generous to those we meet this week, that we might show through word and deed that he is not dead, but risen and present among us For Christ has Died – Christ is Risen & Christ will come again. God is my faithful creator, righteous judge & merciful rescuer. My soul thirsts for him – I cry out to him

Worship his holy name Creator Through him all things were made Rescuer “Today you will be with me” Provider “This is my body” Judge Sheep and Goats Healer Leper: “I will, be clean” Faithful “You are my friends” Merciful “Father forgive them” Righteous “Love your neighbour” Peace Easter “Peace be with you” Love God so loved the world God is my faithful creator, righteous judge & merciful rescuer. My soul thirsts for him – I cry out to him

God be in my head and in my understanding God be in my eyes and in my looking God be in my mouth and in my speaking God be in my heart and in my thinking God be at my end and at my departing Our Gathered Worship is ended. Our Worship continues. Our Service begins (doing the above!) God is my faithful creator, righteous judge & merciful rescuer. My soul thirsts for him – I cry out to him
