Infinitives Basic form of verb Has no tense Usually formed by placing “to” in front of the verb Examples: walk pat love fry
Examples: She is going to run a marathon. Our family wants to watch that movie. My brother will ask to go with his friends. The athlete lifts weights to become stronger.
Present Participle Present tense Uses a helping verb like is, am, are Add -ing to most verbs Examples: walk pat love fry
Examples: I am typing my research paper. He is eating lunch. We are waiting in line. They are talking about the dance. You are making spaghetti for dinner.
Past Tense Past Add -ed to most verbs Examples: walk pat love fry
Examples: Lucy asked for more carrots. Mrs. Peters assigned some math homework. I looked through a magazine.
Past Participle Past tense Uses a helping verb like have, has, or had Add –ed to most verbs Examples: walk pat love fry
Examples: He has visited Vietnam. She has talked to the principal.
