MRI General Safety Rules

GENERAL RULES DO NOT ENTER the MRI Scan Room if the door is closed. Always see the MRI Technologist before entering room. Always see the MRI Technologist for Trash and Linen Pick-up. Check with the MRI Technologists before providing service (i.e., Housekeeping, Maintenance, etc.) in the MRI Scan Room. Do not use the employee entrance closest to Radiology as your preferred entrance – while a Zone 2 hallway (safe for unscreened patients and visitors), PLEASE avoid when possible for safety reasons.

DO NOT ENTER THE MRI SCAN ROOM IF YOU HAVE THE FOLLOWING: Cardiac Pacemaker Brain Aneurysm Clips Implanted Defibrillator Inner or Middle Ear Implant Hearing Aid Implanted Morphine Pump Implanted Insulin Pump

DO NOT BRING THE FOLLOWING PERSONAL ITEMS INTO THE MRI SCAN ROOM: Credit Cards or other cards with magnetic strips Watches Cellular Telephones Pagers Keys Hair Pins

DO NOT BRING THE FOLLOWING MEDICAL EQUIPMENT INTO THE MRI SCAN ROOM: IV Pumps IV Poles Crash Cart Oxygen Tanks - “E” Cylinders Scissors Forceps Wheelchairs Stretchers Any Electronic Medical Equipment Any other Medical Equipment made with metal

DO NOT BRING THE FOLLOWING EQUIPMENT INTO THE MRI SCAN ROOM: Tools Metal Buckets Buffers Fire Extinguishers Paper Clips Mops with metal Any other metal equipment

IN CASE OF A FIRE: Remove the patient from the MRI Scan Room and place on the MRI Stretcher. Place the patient in the nearby Heart and Vascular Center or Stress Room. A Crash Cart is available in the Heart and Vascular Center or Stress Room. An Emergency Drug Box is available in the MRI Scan Room.

IN CASE OF A CODE: Remove the patient from the MRI Scan Room and place on the MRI Stretcher. Place the patient in the nearby Heart and Vascular Center or Stress Room. A Crash Cart is available in the Heart and Vascular Center or Stress Room. An Emergency Drug Box is available in the MRI Scan Room. Do Not Bring the Crash Cart into the MRI Scan Room.

FOLLOWING THESE RULES WILL: Protect your Health. Prevent personal items from being damaged. Prevent items from becoming projectiles that may endanger the patient, staff and yourself. Prevent the MRI Unit from being damaged.
