Home Task Resources Evaluation Introduction New York State of Mind: Introduction New York is a city of neighborhoods and you never know what treasures you can find in these neighborhoods and you never know who you just might bump into. For this web quest, you will be part of a group that travels through the City of New York. You will explore the treasures of some of New York’s neighborhoods: the people, the museums, bridges/subway stations, and sports venues. The City of New York encompasses more than just Midtown Manhattan. Step 1- Your teacher will divide you into groups, 4 members per group. Step 2- Each group member will select a web quest topic to search on their own (Neighborhoods, Sports, Museums, Transit and Transportation) Step 3- Follow the directions for your chosen topic, once you have answered each question you will then write a short summary for each location you visit. Home Task Resources Evaluation Introduction Transportation & Transit New York City is made up of five boroughs: Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx and Staten Island. Each of these boroughs are dependent on each other. We would not be able to get from place to place without bridges and tunnels that connect each borough. These bridges and tunnels are extremely important to our everyday lives. Please look at the websites of a few of the bridges and tunnels. You will learn why each was built, who they were named after and where the bridges are located. Be sure to take a look at the map to locate each bridge and tunnel you read about. Have fun! New York is home to the “World’s Most Famous Arena” and the “Cathedral” of all ballparks. From the most successful sports franchise, the New York Yankees, to arguably the greatest boxing match of all-time, Ali vs. Frazier in 1971, New York has seen it all. Great athletes such as Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Tom Seaver, Willie Mays, Lawrence Taylor, Phil Simms, Mark Messier, Wayne Gretzky, Patrick Ewing, Walt “Clyde” Frazier, John McEnroe, and Andre Agassi have all competed in New York.
