Presentation transcript:

UK’s Reporting Strategy SAP’s Business Warehouse (BW) is the long-term solution for reporting. Business Warehouse is a preferable over writing reports in the SAP online system (R/3) because of: –ease of use –snapshot or point-in-time comparisons –ability to integrate with several reporting tools (WebFOCUS, SAS, etc.) –ability to merge R/3 and non-R/3 data –ability to merge data from multiple R/3 functional areas (MM, FI, HR, etc.) –ability to report on extensive attributes of master data (fund center, grant, etc.) –analytic (drilldown, data pivots) and operational (lists) reports –preservation of processing speed in the R/3 system for more critical needs such as payroll and student registration.

Business Warehouse Concepts A.BW Business Content  Data structures, extraction/load jobs and reports  Not all R/3 data is delivered in BW BC. B.BW Customization  Add R/3 elements not in delivered BC  Add UK custom R/3 elements (ProCard)  Add non-R/3 data (ProSAM, historical data)  Add custom data structures and queries  Modify delivered BC data structures and queries

Business Warehouse Concepts C.Data Structures  Operational Data Store (ODS) – detail transactions  InfoCubes – dimensional analysis of summary data, with possible drilldown to details in ODS D.Reporting Tools  Business Explorer (BEx) – Power users; write reports.  BEx Web Reporting – Customize and run reports written by others.  Other – SAS and WebFOCUS interface. Future decisions.

1.Phase I  Identified and prioritized 2,000+ existing reports  Focus on most critical R/3 (not historical) data and most critical reports  Scope for FI/MM  SAP Delivered – Grants Management, AP and AR  Custom Work – Funds Management, FI-Special Ledger, Check Management, ProCard, extensive AP & AR master data additions  Scope Definition for HR, ProSam and CM – in progress Business Warehouse (BW) Implementation

2.Phase II  Migrate historical data to BW in stages (3-5 years)  Development of “lower” priority reports  Strategic Enterprise Management (SEM) – dashboard, strategy map Business Warehouse (BW) Implementation

Examples of Reports Delivered in BW Financials –1099 Vendors –Vendor Document Details –Check Management Analysis –Assigned Funds (All Ledgers) –Budget Version Comparison –Commitments and Actual –Grants Management – Budget Detail
