The skills and techniques necessary to distinguish exposed electrical conductors or circuit parts from other parts of electrical equipment, 2. The skills and techniques necessary to determine the nominal voltage of exposed energized electrical conductors or circuit parts, 3. The approach distances specified in Table (D) (a) and Table (D) (b) and the corresponding voltages to which the qualified person will be exposed.

This coordination shall include a meeting and documentation.

Crown Point, IN NFPA 70E DEFINITIONS Qualified Person – One who has demonstrated skills and knowledge related to the construction and operation of electrical equipment and installations and has received safety training to identify and avoid the hazards involved. Crown Point, IN NFPA 70E DEFINITIONS Incident Energy – The amount of thermal energy impressed on a surface, a certain distance from the source, generated during an electrical arc event. Incident energy is typically expressed in calories per square centimeter (cal/cm 2 ). Incident Energy Analysis – A component of an arc flash hazard risk assessment used to predict the incident energy of an arc flash for a special set of conditions.

Additional hazards or increased risk – Energized work shall be permitted where the employer can demonstrate that de-energizing introduces additional hazards or increased risk. 2. Infeasibility – Energized work shall be permitted where the employer can demonstrate that the task to be performed is infeasible in a de-energized state due to equipment design or operational limitations.

Less than 50 Volts – Energized electrical conductors and circuit parts that operate at less than 50 volts shall not be required to be de- energized where the capacity of the source and any overcurrent protection between the energy source and thw worker are considered and it is determined that there will be no increased exposure to electrical burns or to exposure due to electric arcs.

Normal Operation – Normal operation of electric equipment shall be permitted where all of the following conditions are satisfied: a) Equipment is properly installed, b) Equipment is properly maintained, c) Doors are closed and secured, d) All covers are in place and secured, and e) No evidence of impending failure.

Crown Point, IN E NERGIZED E LECTRICAL W ORK P ERMIT W HEN R EQUIRED When energized work is permitted in accordance with 130.2(A), an energized electrical work permit shall be required under the following conditions: 1.When work is performed within the restricted approach boundary. 2.When the employee interacts with the equipment when conductors or circuit parts are not exposed but an increased likelihood of injury from an exposure to an arc flash hazard exists.

Crown Point, IN E XEMPTIONS T O W ORK PERMIT An energized electrical work permit shall not be required if a qualified person is provided with and uses appropriate safe work practices and PPE in accordance with Chapter 1 under any of the following: 1.Testing, troubleshooting, and voltage measuring 2.Thermography and visual inspection if the restricted approach boundary is not crossed.
