SAFETY TRAINING

1.1Explain purpose of safety training. The main purpose of this Safety training is to contribute to accident prevention. To involve employees in accident prevention. To motivate employees to accept their safety responsibilities. To provide employees information on accident causes, occupational health hazards, and accident prevention methods.

1.2 Describe Short list personnel who require training: i. New employees or recent transfer Discussed “Report of Unsafe Condition or Hazard” Form. Chemical Safety / Personal Protective Equipment (P.P.E.). Emergency Action Plans. Location of fire alarm.

ii. Promoted employees Current employees shall receive eight hours of refresher training annually. Equivalent training includes the training that existing employees might have already received from actual site work experience.

iii.Supervisor Train employees how to: Indentify and protect themselves from chemical hazards. Recognize the physical and health hazard of chemical in their area. Obtain and document all training.

iv. Contractor Many safety programs state that all workers, whether long- or short-term, complete the training provided by the entity, whether or not they have received other training.

1.3Explain the training procedure: i.Order and instruction. Worksite managers shall provide information and instruction to employees commensurate with the complexity of their tasks, associated risks, and in consideration of their existing competencies, knowledge and skills. Information to employees prior to the introduction of systems or changes to the worksite that may affect their health and safety.

ii. Job Cycle Check. It is recommended that all new Health and Safety Representatives undertake Level 1 training within 3 months of their first appointment. If no subsequent HSR training is undertaken within a five year period, it is also recommended that further training is undertaken. OHS&W responsibilities training for all managers as provided for in the OHS&W Roles and Responsibilities Training Program. (A refresher course is required once every three years. New managers should have done OHS&W&IM training prior to appointment. If not, then they must undertake OHS&W&IM training within 3 months of being designated for the position.

iii.Safety meeting. A safety meeting includes all employees and a management person is there to ensure that issues are addressed. Typically, the safety committee is an effective safety management tool for a larger employer and safety meetings are more effective for a smaller employer.
