Graph Rational Numbers on the Coordinate Plane You already know how to graph whole numbers on the coordinate plane. Maria hid clues to a scavenger hunt for her hiking club. The map shows where she hid the clues. Record your answers to the following questions on a separate piece of paper. The first clue is hidden near a tree. What ordered pair describes its location? Maria walked 4 blocks west to hide the next clue. Which location is it closest to? She walked 1.5 blocks east and 1 block north to place the next clue. Which location is it closest to? Maria walked 4 blocks south to place the next clue. Which location is it closest to? Maria hid the final clue under a rock by the lake. How many blocks east did she walk to the lake? After you have recorded your answers, proceed to the next slide to check your work.

Check your answers. The first clue is hidden near a tree. What ordered pair describes its location? (4, 2) 2. Maria walked 4 blocks west to hide the next clue. Which location is it closest to? library 3. She walked 1.5 blocks east and 1 block north to place the next clue. Which location is it closest to? soccer field 4. Maria walked 4 blocks south to place the next clue. Which location is it closest to? playground 5. Maria hid the final clue under a rock by the lake. How many blocks east did she walk to the lake? 6 blocks Proceed to the next slide.

Proceed to the next slide. Remember to start at the origin. Then move along the x-axis first before moving along the y-axis. You can move along either axis using incrememts of fractional units as well. Proceed to the next slide.

Record your answers on a separate piece of graph paper. Proceed to the next slide to check your answers.

Check your answers! Did you graph the rational numbers correctly? Proceed to the next slide.

Proceed to the next slide.

Let’s try a real-world example. Proceed to the next slide.

Record your answers on a separate piece of graph paper. Proceed to the next slide to check your answers.

Check your answers. Did you graph the ordered pairs correctly? Proceed to the next slide.

Did you understand the lesson? Practice these exercises to find out. Record your answers on a separate piece of graph paper. Proceed to the next slide to check your answers.
