Our 5 th Grade Writing Project *8 Poems* By: Ms. Stymfal

ABC Poem A series of lines that create a mood, picture, or feeling. Lines are made up of words and phrases. The first word of line 1 begins with an A, the first word of line 2 begins with a B etc. Example: A lthough things are not perfect B ecause of trial or pain C ontinue in thanksgiving D o not begin to blame E ven when the times are hard F ierce winds are bound to blow

Alliteration Repetition of the same or similar sounds at the beginning of words such as tongue twisters like 'She sells seashells by the seashore’ Example I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet When far away an interrupted cry Came over houses from another street

Couplet Stanza composed of two rhymed lines in Iambic Pentameter Example: O could I flow like thee, and make thy stream My great example, as it is my theme! Though deep, yet clear, though gentle, yet not dull, Strong without rage, without o'erflowing full.
