Environmental Education Shanna Mastrangelo

Environmental Education is a lifelong process with the objective to develop students’ Environmental awareness Ecological knowledge Attitudes, values, and commitments for actions Ethical responsibilities for the rational use of resources, and for sound and sustainable development

Environmental Awareness Students must learn about environmental issues in order to be aware, and take the right action. What does this look like?

Ecological Knowledge Lets students’ understand particular knowledge of the diversity and interactions among plants, animals, landforms, watercourses and other traits of the biophysical environment. Attitudes, values, and commitments for actions! Students need to discover that every action counts. Did you know that one new aluminum takes the same electricity to make as ten recycled cans?

How does Environmental Education Work? Once students know more about Environmental issues it will empower and motivate them for responsible actions. Students can perform scientific inquiry to gather data, identify issues, ask questions, and make predictions. Students can propose reasonable solutions, evaluate, and communicate proposed environmental issues.

In Schools You May See… Recycling paper/cardboard and drink containers Students plant token trees on earth day. Set out school duties, such as picking up schoolyard trash regularly. If you plan ahead, what you could see is students taking actions that have greater impacts.
