World War 1 The Great War, from August 1914 to November 11,1918 Allied Powers - Britain, France, Russia and U.S.(after 1917) Central Power - Germany, Austro-Hungarian and Ottoman Empire(today Turkey) Change the face of Europe First global war of the industrialize age A new kind of war Known as People’s War

The Year 1914 June/July June 28 – The heiress to the throne of Austria-Hungary, is killed by Serbian Nationalist July 5 – Kaiser William II promises German support, if Austria declare war on Serbia July 28 – The Emperor of Austria-Hungary, Franz Joseph, declare war on Serbia and Russia July 29 – Russia begins to mobilize his force. Austrian troops invaded Serbia.

The Year 1914 August 1 – Official date of outbreak of WW1. Germany declares war on Russia. 2 – Germany invades Luxembourg. 3 – Germany declares war on France. 4 – Germany invades Belgium, Schlieffen Plan . , Britain declare war on Germany. Canada join also the war. 7 - British troops support France and Belgians troops to stop German offensive.

The Year 1914 August 17 – Russia invades East Prussia(Germany). 22 – Austria-Hungary starts an invasion of Russian. Japan declares war on Germany and attacks the German colony. 26 - The battle of Tannenberg begins. 30 – The battle of Tannenberg ends in a total Russian defeat(later more).

The Year 1914 September 5 - First Battle of the Marne begins. 9 - First Battle of the Masurian Lakes begins. 10 - First Battle of the Marne ends in a French Victory. 14 - Russia loses the First Battle of Masurian Lakes. Troops start to construct trenches across the entire length of the western front. 17 - Austrian and German forces starts an attack into western Poland.

The Year 1914 October/December 14 – Canadian force of 32 000 men land in England to prepare for fight at the front 29 – Ottoman Empire (Turkey) enters the war on the side of the Central Powers(Germany and Austria-Hungary) 8 - Battle of the Falkland Islands between British and German Naval units. 21 - First German air raid on Britain. 25 - An unofficial Christmas truce is declared by soldiers along the Western Front (later more).
