Presentation transcript:

The active diction throughout the poem (“blooms,” “dance,” “sing,” “frisk,” “play”) dramatizes the excitement of the season.

Adding to the visual imagery of blossoming flowers and musical sounds of singing birds and piping shepherds, the sweet smells of the fields and soft touch of the daisies further immerse the reader into the countryside setting, covering four of the senses. Also, along with the season, its fields and blooms are also personified in a welcoming way. The inevitable mention of young lovers in a poem about spring connects the optimistic sense of possibility and romance with the season of rebirth and fertility. This is also known as a pathetic fallacy, the association of a natural element with human emotion because the freshness of spring is compared to first loves.

Tone The light, playful, jubilant tone is achieved by the following: o the musicality of the poem, o the simple rhyme scheme, and o the joyous subject matter Purpose ☼The poem portrays spring as joyous and pleasant, a time of rebirth and love. ☼In the context of play, King Summer is being advised of Spring’s superiority to the other seasons. ☼Spring iompetes with Autumn and Winter, so it oversells its attributes. ☼The poem celebrates SPRING!
