Unit Lesson Presentation by Brian Green

 The course is designed for entry level weight training students.  Students must have successfully completed P.E. I.  Students must be motivated to work hard and committed to lifting weights daily. A high school level advanced physical education course. Course Description

 Students will learn the proper techniques to strength train with free weights.  Students will safely participate in a daily workout.  Students will learn the principles behind strength training and be able to apply them to a workout.  Students will work cooperatively in the weight room by using proper weight room etiquette, helping one another with respectful criticism, and sharing the weight equipment. Learning Outcomes

Unit Summary Student will learning how to become stronger through weight training. Students will be assessed to determine their starting point, and to find experienced weight lifters to help with beginners. Students will learn the principles of weight training, weight training exercises, major muscle groups, and safety procedures. Students will be assessed and given immediate feedback on proper lifting techniques and safety concerns both by the teacher and other students. Student will be encouraged to help one another watch each other and helping each other refine their lifting skills. Students will also monitor their own progress and make adjustments in the amount of weight they are using on each lift. Students will be asked to encourage and push one another to work hard and increase weight as often as possible. P.E. II Weight Training

 HS-1.1 Use basic and advanced skills and tactics to participate competently in two of the following movement forms: Proper Lifting Technique, Proper Spotting Technique, or Dynamic Stretching.  HS-2.1 Analyze and evaluate his or her movement skills as well as those of others in selected activities. Weight Lifting, Spotting, and Safety considerations  HS-3.1 Monitor his or her own participation in physical activity (for example, measure through the use of a pedometer, heart-rate monitor, and physical activity log).  HS-5.1 Apply leadership skills by holding him- or herself as well as others responsible for resolving conflicts in a positive way; modeling proper etiquette; and following safe practices, rules, and procedures in all physical-activity settings.
