P ort E nrichment P rogram What’s New?

New Enrichment Unit: Digital Photography Digital Photography Suitcase The equipment for this unit was funded by a PWEF grant which was matched by the PWUFSD Technology Department.

Digital Photography Digital photography is used everywhere and appeals to many people.

Digital Photography Suitcase Unit outline:  Introduction to digital photography and SONY Cybershot camera  View pictures and download onto the computer  Take pictures outside  Use Photoshop Elements to zoom, crop and print  Take pictures of people: emotion, light and background  More Photoshop Elements: edit and print on photo paper

Introduction to Digital Photography Students learn how to operate a digital camera and take pictures of everything around them.

Using the Computer Next they learn to view images on the camera and download them to the computer.

Taking Outdoor Photos After a discussion about subject matter and light source we have fun taking pictures outside.

Taking “People” Photos…  Eyes, mouth and hands show emotion  Look out for busy backgrounds  Turn the flash off and on  Get in close.

Students speak… “I feel excited when I take pictures because I am taking a picture of a memory. I like taking pictures because I am able to express myself and how you are feeling. My favorite picture is the one I took in the back of the school. The landscape is beautiful, you can see the trees and a little bit of the sky in the background.”

Students speak… “The first time I ever properly learned how to take pictures was in digital photography. When I am taking pictures I always look forward to looking at them when I am done taking it. I like taking pictures because it feels like you are in control. My favorite picture is a picture of a mouse pad. The picture is taken way up close, all you see is multicolored dots on a white piece of fabric. I like it because when you look at it, it makes you feel like the whole world is colored dots.”
