Parts of the Digestive System The Mouth: The mouth is the beginning of the digestive system, and, in fact, digestion starts here before you even take the first bite of a meal. The smell of food triggers the salivary glands in your mouth to secrete saliva, causing your mouth to water. When you actually taste the food, saliva increases. Function: The function of the mouth is to break down and mix food with the saliva.  The Digestive System

Continue- Parts and Functions Complete all the parts and functions.

Among the most widely known diseases of the digestive system is colon cancer. This is when strange cells grow in the colon and threaten to spread to other parts of your body. Colon Cancer is typically a slow-growing cancer that is often survivable if caught early. Some signs and symptoms of colon cancer include, blood in the stool, a change in bowel movements, weight loss and feeling tired all the time. Regular exams by your doctor are recommended to detect if adults have colon cancer.

Food doesn't need gravity to get to your stomach. Your stomach doesn't do most of the digestion. The surface area of the small intestine is huge. Stomachs vary in the animal kingdom. A sword swallower helped doctors look inside the stomach.
