A LL ABOUT THE D ECLARATION OF I NDEPENDENCE By: Raquel Acho

W HAT IS THE D ECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE ? The Declaration of Independence is a letter on behalf the people in America to King George III. It stated why the colonists wanted their independence. It was written by the Continental Congress and signed by representatives of the 13 colonies.

W HY IS THE D ECLARATION OF I NDEPENDENCE IMPORTANT. It is the letter that led to the Revolutionary War. It helped the colonists gain full independence over Great Brittan and King George III. It is why Great Brittan and the colonies went to war.

W HO WAS INVOLVED IN THE WRITING OF THE D ECLARATION OF I NDEPENDENCE ? Some members of the Continental Congress such as, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams. Thomas Jefferson wrote most of the Declaration.

W HAT DID THE D ECLARATION OF I NDEPENDENCE SAY ? The Declaration of Independence stated the reason and explanations to why the colonies wanted their independence against Great Brittan. It was a letter that was meant to be seen by the world so that everyone can understand why they made this decision.

W HY DID THEY HAVE TO GO TO WAR ? They had to go to war because after King George had read the Declaration of Independence he was angry that the colonies wanted freedom and the colonies knew they had to fight to gain their freedom. He was angry because he was collecting taxes from the colonies and knew he wouldn’t have as much money if the colonies gained their own independence from Great Brittan.

W HO WON THE WAR ? The colonies won the war against Great Brittan and were now an independent state and had the right to make their own laws and come closer to soon becoming The United States of America. It is the reason that the in America we celebrate the 4 th of July as Independence day. It’s the day which the letter was officially signed.
