General Overview Start Up:1976 Shut Down:1997 Capacity:6500 tons per year (22 tpd of 40% solution) The plant also consists of the following: (3) 700 liter, hydrogenation reactors/autoclaves (vertical tube reactors) H 2 Electrolysis Plant
Process Description After the glucose is dissolved, the catalyst is added to the solution and the pH value is adjusted. The solution is then transported by dosage pumps into autoclaves. Under high pressure and temperature, hydrogenation is performed in three steps: oThe catalyst is removed from the prepared 40% solution of Sorbitol through decantation (1 st step) and centrifugal separation (2 nd step). oNickel +2 is then removed by ion exchange (3 rd step) The prepared solution is stored in vessels for use in the production of Ascorbic Acid synthesis, or it is transported to the evaporation unit for use in the production of 70% Sorbitol solution and Sorbitol crystallized by fluid bed granulation
