Special Kindergarten No 393 in Warsaw

A little about our history  It was established in 1985 thanks to the initiative of parents of disabled children  At the beginning it was located in the small flats in the block  In 1991 it was moved to the detached building with a garden  Since 1996 our kindergarten has got its own building in Youth House of Culture; thanks to the big effort and commitment of parents, director and media

Our profile  Our kindergarten is public educational establishment for physically disabled children  Our pupils have mostly multiple disabilities, with various developmental disorders, e.g. cerebral palsy, different genetic syndromes, other physical and mental disabilities, non-speaking children using AAC also with visual and hearing impairment or autism

Organization  Kindergarten is open from Monday to Friday from 7a.m. until 5p.m.  There are approximately 32 pupils  Three to eight years-old  Children are divided into 4 groups based on age and disability  The Kindergarten is open from September to June. (during summer time possible two weeks holiday duty)

Our staff  We have got professional staff  The staff consists of 15 specialists such as special pedagogues, psychologist, therapist, speech and language pathologists, physiotherapists, assistants in every group, support staff, volunteers and students.

Our therapies  We provide a wide range of different methods in a process of education and rehabilitation  We are concentrated on functional therapy and focused on self-reliance of children

Methods and tools  AAC (alternative and augmentative communication), low and high technology in AAC,  OPT (oral placement therapy), Talk Tools,  Feeding Therapy,  Sensory Integration,  Hand Therapy,  Music and Movement Therapy,  Touch and Communication programme by Ch.Knill,  Elements of Montessori method,  Polisensory Stimulation,  Key to learning programme based on Vygotskian theory,  Developing movement by V.Sherborne,  NDT Bobath concept,  Theatre education,  Play Therapy

We cooperate with  Dr Clown Foundation,  Academy of Special Education,  The Polish Robert Schuman Foundation since 2008; participating in the EVS (European Voluntary Service) project we are hosting volunteers of different countries who are helping our kids in everyday work, supporting them in activities and giving new ideas; we use „total communication” English, Polish and Sign language-gestures, PCS symbols; it’s great experience for both partners
