Summary Summary From the time he was a small boy, Matthew Henson wanted adventure. In 1879, when he was only 13 years old, he walked 40 miles to Baltimore's harbor and got a job on a ship. When he was 20 years old he went on his first expedition with explorer Robert Peary. Soon after, he and Robert Peary were bound for the biggest adventure of all - the search for the North Pole.

Genre: Historical Fiction Historical FictionHistorical Fiction Historical Fiction is fiction that takes place in the past. The author makes up the characters and events, but the characters and events seem real. The setting is important, and the problems and events are based on things that really did or could have happened during the time period.
