THE URINARY SYSTEM

What is the Urinary System? The urinary system, also known as the excretory system, is concerned with the removal of water-soluble waste products from the body in the form of urine.

Components of the urinary system

First Component 1. The Kidney are purplish- brown, bean shaped organs. Produce urine and help regulate and control the body fluids. To do this, the kidneys filter all the blood and excrete waste by making urine.

2. The Ureters: The ureters are a pair of long tubes that connect the kidneys to the bladder. The ureters transport urine from the kidneys to the bladder.

3. The Urinary Bladder The urinary bladder is the organ that collects urine excreted by the kidneys before disposal by urination

4. Urethra the urethra is a tube that connects the urinary bladder to the outside of the body. Male Urethra Female Urethra

Did you know? In adults, blood accounts for approximately 7- 8 % of the body weight which is equal to about 5 liters (9 pints). Blood is made of red cell, white blood cell, and platelets which float along in a fluid called plasma and Circulates at a speed of about 30 centimeters per second.

- About 1300 ml/ minutes of blood flows through the both kidneys, where hundred of nephrons --- The functional unit of the kidneys --- filter the blood at a rate of 125 ml/ minute. - The urine from each kidney passes along a the tubes called a utterer to the bladder, which can hold as little as 50 ml of urine. - Our urinary bladder can hold up to 1000 ml (1 liter).
