CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY SRI LANKA INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTS

THE AWARENESS PROGRAMME The Programme was held on 21 st October 2013 at the Carmel Balika College in Chilaw at which students of St. Mary’s College Chilaw also participated. Main purpose of the programme was enhancing knowledge of Architecture among the Advanced Level students. School Awareness Programme Committee handed over of sporting equipment and microphone system gift to the 02 Schools, and distributed SLIA literature to the school children. There was a Question and Answer session, students were very interested and there was a good feedback from them. The team also donated Blue Book of SLIA and Journal to both school libraries. A total of 212 school children from 2 schools along with (10) Teachers attended the Programme. The programme was a total success.

Cooperation with service Organizations in Helping the lesser Privileged SLIA is participating in a project to develop 200 underprivileged Schools in identified remote Villages to renovate as well as build essential amenities by providing advise on a voluntary basis and professional inputs when required on concessionary terms The understanding was reached between the SLIA and the Lions Club. of a Region outside Colombo

The Ministry of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities is conducting a week-long programme to commemorate the World Habitat Day from the 1 st to the 7 th of October in South of Colombo Moratuwa. The SLIA decided to participate at this event as a corporate social responsibility project by conducting a mobile service for residents of Moratuwa. The objective of the mobile service was to Assist and advise those who experience difficulties in obtaining clearances from the Local Authorities and in the event there are defects in the drawings to guide and assist them on how to rectify the defects. Advise those who come with design or construction problems in their houses. The mobile service was held on the 1 st of October at the premises of a Middle income Housing Complex inside a specially built structure. Several Members of the SLIA participated on a voluntary basis in this project. A large number of persons Visited SLIA Booth to seek Advice and Guidance.

The SLIA in the past 2 Years have Conducted a Student Jamboree for the student of the two Architecture Schools, The University of Moratuwa and City School of Architecture. The Objective of this Programme is to Provide an Opportunity for Students to Have a closer interaction as they all would soon be joining the Profession The Programme was held over 0 2 Days in a Province around 160 km from the Capital City, Colombo The Jamboree concentrated on two main tasks Development of Leadership Skills and Confidence building Creating an awareness and sensitivity to social responsibilities. The Activities were aimed at developing leadership skills, Team Spirit Planning Strategies Comradeship Time Management shelf, Confidence and decision making Skills Creating an awareness on social responsibilities. The group undertook to colour wash a school in a remote area in close proximity to the Jamboree site. 2 ND STUDENT JAMBOREE 2013

SRILANKA INSTOTUTE OF ARCHITECTS The Membership of the SLIA is concerned not only about the built environment but also its inhabitants. For the past two years the Members and the staff have visited the City Home for Elders and Children, Battaramulla - managed by the Colombo Municipal Council and spent the day making the 110 inmates comprising elders and children feel the warmth of social contact and meeting some of their material needs.
