HOW TO STUDY MATHEMATICS EFFECTIVELY??

Learning mathematics = learning another language so at first it will be hard but it will get progressively easier.

Categories of Students who are doing poorly in a math. do not have good study habits and/or don’t really understand how to study for a math class spend hours each day studying and still don’t do well aren’t spending enough time studying

Math Anxiety

Math anxiety I don't do math fast enough. I don't have a math mind. I got the right answer but I did it the wrong way. If I get it right, it must be too simple. Math is unrelated to my life.

College Math is Different from High School Math A College math class meets less often and covers material at about twice the pace than that of a High School course. You are expected to absorb new material much more quickly. Tests are probably spaced farther apart and so, cover more material than before.

College Math is Different from High School Math The instructor may not even check your homework. You probably need to spend more time studying per week. Tests may seem harder just because they cover more material.

Studying Math is Different from Studying Other Subjects Math is learned by doing problems. More problems you solve, understand the concept better.

Become acquainted with the vocabulary Get at least two reference books STEPS TO LEARN MATH Create learning time Become acquainted with the vocabulary Get at least two reference books Must study to dedicate to learning math vocab two different explanations and one of the explanations may make better sense to you than the other

STEPS TO LEARN MATH Tackle subjects along with their prerequisites Practice with many problems Always ask for help if you don't know how to do something Many concepts are related and knowing one helps you understand the other Do as many mathematics problems as you can lay your hands on - even those beyond the class. This will assist you in getting a good feel for the topics and will likely help much of mathematics become "second nature" to you.

THINGS YOU NEED FRESH MIND, POSITIVE ATTITUDE TOWARDS THE SUBJECT REFERENCE BOOKS – LOTS OF THEM

TIPS TO LEARN MATH Frustration is part of the process - don't give up Tackle all the basic stuff all at once Regular practice will ease your challenges. Study as hard as you can and practise each and everyday Mathematics is not a passive activity Frustration is part of the process - don't give up just because you have a hard time understanding some concept. Tackle all the basic stuff all at once and spend an hour every day learning one of the basics like algebra and geometry. Regular practice will ease your challenges. Study as hard as you can and practise each and everyday Mathematics is not a passive activity. You cannot learn mathematics by reading a textbook like a novel. You must be active and play with the concepts you learn. Can you apply them to areas not discussed in the book? Can you try to reformulate the concepts in a more personal way? Could you describe them to another person? If you don't like your textbook, try to say exactly why, and then try to rewrite the relevant section in a better way. The key is to pursue the mathematics actively: don't think you can accumulate a mathematical education by simply reading a textbook. Don't just think harder, think smarter. Solve the easier problems first, so you can mentally warm up your brain for the more complicated ones. Progress through the levels of mathematics. Work your way up to advanced mathematics through this progression: Basic algebra, basic geometry, basic calculus, intermediate algebra, regular calculus, number theory, linear algebra, advanced algebra, combinatorics, analysis, and topology. However, note that many school districts do the progression of math in a different pattern. More commonly, pre algebra -> algebra I -> Geometry -> Algebra II (with Trig) -> Pre- Calculus -> Calculus (AP optional) -> statistics (assuming you are already two years advanced).

TIPS TO LEARN MATH Don't just think harder, think smarter. Solve the easier problems first, so you can mentally warm up your brain for the more complicated ones

WARNING!!! the study of mathematics is not easy; persistence and focus can help you excel in your efforts don't stress yourself with a weird feeling that you are doing something extremely hard but always think fresh that you are doing something which is fun Like any other worthwhile endeavor, the study of mathematics is not easy; persistence and focus can help you excel in your efforts. don't stress yourself with a weird feeling that you are doing something extremely hard but always think fresh that you are doing something which is fun . don't think that you can never be good at math .you must believe 'nothing is impossible' ,well not just believe but work for it don't feel bored in math class ,it has dual negatives ,one it ll make you feel real low about learning.secondly you ll feel ultra strange about the problems and will feel confused at home when you try it out .so be active in math class which ll make you active in doing math.

WARNING!!! don't think that you can never be good at math .you must believe 'nothing is impossible' ,well not just believe but work for it Being frustrated is not a problem, it is a natural part of the learning process, so don't give up. You can do it!

Studying Math is Different….. A word of encouragement: Each class builds on the previous ones, all semester long. You’re always reviewing previous material as you do new material. Many of the ideas hang together. Identifying and learning the key concepts mean you don’t have to memorize as much.

MATHEMATICS IS NOT A SPECTATOR SPORT -just watching the instructor teaching

EVERYDAY STUDY IS A BIG PART OF TEST PREPARATION Good study habits throughout the semester make it easier to study for tests Do the homework when it is assigned. You cannot hope to cram 3 or 4 weeks worth of learning into a couple of days of study. On tests you have to solve problems; homework problems are the only way to get practice. As you do homework, make lists of formulas and techniques to use later when you study for tests. Ask your Instructor questions as they arise; don’t wait until the day before a test. The questions you ask right before a test should be to clarify minor details.

DOS Go To Class. Get to Class On Time. LISTEN During Class. Take Good Notes.

Ask Questions. Listen When Others Ask Questions.  Review Notes After Class. 

Do Homework After Each Class. Do Homework Without Notes and Book. Do More Homework Practice, Practice, Practice.

Keep Old Homework and Exams Don’t Forget Your Textbook Seek Help If You Need It.   Have the Proper Attitude

Falling a day behind puts you at a disadvantage. Falling a week behind puts you in deep trouble.

Students who fear math often: avoid asking questions to save embarrassment, sit at the back of the classroom, fail to seek help from the lecturer, put off studying math until the last moment.

Positive behaviors to help students learn and perform better in math classes: sit in front rows of the class where you will experience fewer distractions and feel more a part of what is being discussed. if you have questions, ask! Rest assured that you are not the only one who has the same question you want to ask. Don't be afraid to seek help from your lecturer after class or during office hours.
