1.Solar Operated Remote Control By 1 Kahled alzahrani Salem Ali Bawazir Mohmmed alorf Abdullah alsalem Sultan alfuraih Supervisor Prof. M.E.E.Abashar GE105: Introduction to Engineering Design Section:29779 (First semester )

2. Statement of the problem Design a practical remote control that use solar operator. This would allows the users to save money and time (economic). 2 1

3.Introduction: The normal remote control can waste time and money by changing its battery. The solar cells can convert the energy in light into electrical energy. This project solves the normal remote controls problem by using "the solar remote control”. 3 2

4.Need analysis: Solar charged. Economic. Practical. Easy to use. Served for a longer time. No need to change the battery. Safe to use. 4 3

5.a.Objectives: Primary: To design Solar operated remote control. Secondary: Save energy. No wire. New design to use renewable energy. No need to change battery. Easy to use. Nice shape. Safe to use. 5 4

5.b.Objectives Tree Solar operated remote control 6 Save energy. No wire New design to use renewable energy. No need to change battery Safe to use Easy to use Nice shape 5

6.Constraints: Maximum mass=300 g. Maximum width =7 cm. Maximum length =20cm. Maximum thickness =3 cm. Maximum price = 80 SR. Do not make pollution after used. Recyclable material. 7 6

7.Criteria For Successful Design Small size. Low cost. Light weight. Nice appearance. Strength of material. Production simplicity. Convenience of use. Safety. Transmission range. Light-reflecting buttons. Can be used by one hand. 8 7

8.Problem Definition:  Design a practical remote control that use solar operator. The maximum price of the remote should not be more than 80 SR, maximum thickness 3cm, maximum width 7 cm and maximum length 20cm. It’s size should be made of strong material and mass is not exceed 300g.The remote must be has a long transmission range. The remote should be easy to use and has long life. The remote is universal remote control. 8

9.Morphological Analyses : FeaturePossible concepts Body MaterialsPlastic, Steel. Signal senderCable, IRR PowerBattery, solar cells, No Battery. SizeSmall, medium, large. 9

Designs : Design (1): Plastic, cable, no battery and small size. Design (2): Plastic, IRR, battery and medium size Design (3): Plastic, IRR, solar cells and large size. 10

Advantages: No need to change the battery. Hard to lose. Connection can not be lost. Small size. No Battery. Disadvantages: Can not move it anywhere. Bad appearance. Limited range. The wire may be cut. Cost : 20 SR Design 1 (remote control with cable) 11 [ 1 ]

Design 2( normal remote control) Advantage: Easy to move. No cable. Longer range. Nice appearance. Disadvantage: The battery must change. The back cover is easy to brake. Range depends in the battery. Not economic. May be lost. Cost : 40 SR 12 [ 2 ]

Design 3 (Solar cell Remote control) Advantages: Good appearance. Hard to broke. Comfortable No need to change the battery. Disadvantages: Larger size. Cost : 80 SR 13

10.Human factor A. Anthropometric Factors :  Dimensions of human hand : 1.Hand length = 17.9cm 2.Hand width = 8 cm 3.Thumb length = 7 cm  Dimensions of solar remote control : 1.Length = 18 cm 2.Width = 4.5 cm 3.Thickens =2.5 cm 17 16

B. Ergonomic Factors : Arrange the buttons according to the use of them, so the most buttons repeated press will be made : 1. Close to the thumb 2.Different size These buttons are :  Channel up –Channel down  Sound up – Sound down 18 17

C. Physiological Factors 17.9 cm 7cm 8cm 90 18cm 14cm Thumb length 4.5 cm 2.5 cm 18 [ 3 ]

D. Psychological Factors:  Make the buttons shape according to the function of them : 1.Channel up 2.Channel down 3.Sound up 4.Sound down  Make on/off button with red color 20 19

11.Simulation 21 Width = 4.5cm Thickness= 2.5cm Length = 18cm 20

12. Conclusion : The idea of the device came from saving money, time and energy, also to use the renewable energy (solar cells) in a new application to be practical and economical
