Introduction Technology and science have developed massively. The development has spread out to every side of human life. Even it has influenced the language education, specifically the language testing.

Concept of IBT and CBT IBT (Internet Based Testing) is a form of competence, skill, or knowledge assessment through computer/internet.(Hartoyo, 2012) Another form of IBT is WBT (Web Based Testing) WBT assesses one’s competence, skill, or knowledge through a website (Roever, 2001) CBT (Computer Based Testing) is a form of assessment or test which is carried out through electronic devices (Electronic Exam) Electronic Exam is a form of exam which is carried out through computer or other electronic devices in which response is recorded and assessed.

The advantages of IBT (LTDI, 1999) More frequent use of formative and summative test or assessment. The result I more quickly distributed to teacher. Providing self assessment. Increasing students’ self esteem. It is preferred by students because the result is known faster.

The positive side of CBT CBT is an innovative method which is cheaper, faster and wider than conventional method Facilitate students who has limited/ specific condition

CBT’s benefit based on the comparison with PBT(Paper Based Testing) Increase the students’ achievement The higher flexibility in learning Independent test result Preferred by test takers

Obstacles of CBT Knowledge and mastery of computer use Barriers which comes from hardware Behavior or attitude of the students Questions format that really assesses students’ academic ability

IBT application
