Hip Replacement Tyler Lewis

Symptoms: There are many symptoms when it comes to Hip Replacement including loss in movement of the hips, difficulty walking, not able to bear some weight or even no weight, and chronic pain in the hip flexors and hip region that medicine cannot even control.

Prevalence: The rate of hip replacements increased by over 25% between the years % of men and 18% of women over 60 years of age will need a Hip Replacement.

Causes/Transmitted Osteoarthritis: when cartilage on the end of the bone begins to wear away, causing pain and stiffness Rheumatoid Arthritis: autoimmune disease in which the synovial membrane becomes inflamed.

Causes/Transmitted cont. Traumatic Arthritis: the articular cartilage becomes damaged and overtime, can causes severe hip pain Avascular Necrosis: head of the femur loses blood supply and literally dies Idiopathic Osteonecrosis: no known cause yet

Treatment There are many different types of treatments when it comes to post-hip replacement surgery: Physical Therapy and Other Rehabilitation options. The patient will spend no more than 10 days in the hospital after the surgery has been performed.

Treatment cont. Once home, the doctor will suggest that you rest and relax. Try to set up a station where there is a TV, the remote, a waste container, a pitcher and glass for your beverage and someone that is willing to help you when you need help and “cater” to your needs.

Interesting Facts The most common problem after Hip Replacement Surgery is the dislocation of the hip. This happens when your in an awkward position like when you’re knees are up to your chest.

Interesting facts Researchers and scientist are working together to improve the new hip so that after surgery, you’re able to resume playing sports like basketball and able to run to your fullest.

Interesting Facts The less common problem after surgery is blood clots
