What can you do to protect your IP Assets? START TODAY! Do not ignore IP issues. keep track of your intellectual property by recording and documenting all ideas and innovation related activities in your business. Consider introducing an incentive scheme to encourage people record their innovations. EDUCATE YOURSELF & TEAM ON THE BASICS Make time to train yourself and your team on the importance of the protection of intellectual property and the rights and options that are available. MONITOR THE USE OF YOUR IP make regular visits to the market to spot fakes, also monitor domain names, e-commerce which are often overlooked or ignored. Make it an obligation to report instances of infringement and train employees to spot fakes.

What can you do to protect your IP Assets? You should focus on guarding against any public disclosure of your invention before it has been registered. Clarify ownership of IP created by employees by covering this issue in the employment contracts and contracts with third parties by including IP assignment clauses and confidentiality clauses. In some cases Non Disclosure Agreement (NDA) may not be enough, you may also need to invest in a well written Joint Development Agreement (JDA), where you develop a product or invention with another person. INVEST IN WELL WRITTEN NDA & JDA HIRE AN IP EXPERT You should seek advice on how to go about registering and protecting your intellectual property by hiring a good lawyer or agent that specializes in the field.

Infringement of Intellectual Property Right IP Theft Outright copy/ close similarity Ambush marketing Counterfeiting Infringement Goodwill Importation for commercial use Exhibit/ Perform in public Distributes by way of Trade/Hire WITHOUT PERMISSION!
