Facilities Managers are being compared with dedicated security managers Senior Management’s Expectations from Facilities Managers are increasing Professionalism in Security Management is taken for granted The Days are Getting Longer! Time is of the essence! Everything is Urgent!

The Challenges facing Facilities Managers - continued Crime (especially violent crime) is increasing! Terrorism has changed its ‘colours’ and is back with a global vengeance! Public & Private Corporate personnel are especially nervous Budgets aren’t keeping pace with the threats On the mainland, Regulation has arrived (PSIA/SIA) The Police are increasingly engaged in ‘Fire Brigade’ responses, leaving corporations to become more pro- active in security and crime prevention

The Powers & Responsibilities of Facilities Managers This ranges from active involvement in setting security policy & strategy to operational roles FM’s are rapidly becoming ‘in-house’ security specialists/advisors. This brings advantages and disadvantages (e.g. enhanced status and conversely new roles such as fraud investigation) Knowledge of criminal law and related legislation is now added to the long list of other legislation that FM’s are expected to know (Theft Acts, Anti-terrorism laws, PACE etc.)

The Powers & Responsibilities of Facilities Managers Knowledge of the latest Security Technology is a ‘must’ Knowing where & how to obtain that knowledge is key (e.g. exhibitions, trade journals, web sites, peers external consultants/specialists and of course, from your own experience) Procurement skills are essential along with the management of tender processes Your views/opinions will be respected, so getting it right is essential!

The Actions that Facilities Managers can reasonably take Work to a plan Don’t ‘shoot from the hip’ Be pro-active Be smart! Take a look at this……………..
